What is a BaZi reading?

What is the difference between BaZi and the Chinese zodiac?

BaZi reads eight characters — year, month, day, and hour — so two people born in the same zodiac year can have entirely different charts. If the zodiac is the cover of the book, BaZi is the text. What is my day master?
Your day master is the single character in your chart that stands for you — the stem of your day pillar. There are ten possible day masters, each a yin or yang form of one of the five elements. Everything else in the chart is read in relation to it: which elements feed it, which drain it, which challenge it into shape. What are the Four Pillars of Destiny?
The four pillars are the four coordinate pairs of your birth moment: year, month, day, and hour, each written as two characters. Read together they show a structure, not a script — the year pillar carries the broader context you were born into, the month pillar the conditions that formed you, the day pillar your own nature, the hour pillar your later unfolding. Despite the English name, nothing about them is fated: they describe the terrain you were given, not the path you must walk.
